also 08 is 08 only so be careful as they are very hard to find and if u have to buy used most won't give a warranty as its a electric part , been there also ,,,,

I've been busy and haven't had the time to try to take apart the ABS unit. I will though. I should have some time coming up soon. I'm willing to bet there is a broken solder joint on the board. I'll report back here when I get to it and if that was the issue or not. Let me know if pulling the fuses takes care of your gauges. I'm curious.

I know this is old but the electrical gremlins showed up last week after I was gone for 3 weeks and the HHR had sat. Battery was down so I charged it up but would not hold charge so got a new one free under warranty from Auto Zone. I put the new battery in but still had the gauges bouncing and hard shifting. I pulled the fuses you suggested and stated her up but had codes. I put the 3 fuses back in and restarted HHR. Everything was back to normal. So I do think it has something to do with ABS and 3 fuses. We will see when the electrical gremlins reappear. Everything is working fine for now.

Push those and all fuses and relays firmly into their place and snug those 4 bolts in the under hood fuse box. That’ll keep the gremlins away

Thanks Oldblue. Yes I figured that by pulling the fuses and reinstalling that I improved the connections in the fuse block. I had already checked the tightness of the four bolts and they were good.

Does "good" mean King Kong couldn't turn them any more or afraid they will strip?

Well, "good" means to me that they are very tight. I don't know about King Kong's strength. :)

They need to be tighter than "I was afraid they would strip" not tight as a good pull on a 3/8 drive handle. The point of the exercise is that each of the fuse holders have matching blades that need to slot securely into the bottom half of the box, I am guessing something like 100 points of contact in 2 pieces of 17 year old plastic that can warp.
