Mine did this when the battery died, but it could also be the starter. Try jump-starting it. If that works, you probably have a dying battery, and that is cheaper and easier to fix than a starter.

Just a thought, have you tried a different key?

Usually if the starter acts up, it doesn't work for long. A bad connection on the battery or engine ground could also cause the starter to click.
