noise at 48,000 miles
I bought my 2010 hhr in may of this year had 42,000 miles on it . 2.2 l with A/T . had no noise now I am starting to get a noise that I think might be a hub going bad. not sure any body have this problem at a low mile. I would think I would need to get to 100,000 before this became a problem. brakes was done when i bought it. The noise is there all the time any speed ,if the car is going down the road i have the noise.

Unfortunately I've never met a hub yet that could read an odometer. 48k is a bit early for a hub to fail, on the other hand the first 42,000 miles of your HHR's life may have been filled with potholes or curbs.
You can swap tires front to rear on the side with the noise, if the sound follows the tire, that's the cause. If not, it's time to change the hub, and change it soon. When they're really yowling and grinding, you're taking a risk of catastrophic failure.

Of course, there is also the chance that the brake job was poorly done and you are hearing a screecher. I had some pads wear out on mine way too fast a while ago and I kept saying to myself "It couldn't be the brakes, I just did them". Wrong!
