Noise / rattle at start up

In my 2009 HHR I have a rattle / noise at start up. It only lasts like 2 seconds. I had it to the dealership twice. First time they said not to worry about it. Second time they said it was probably the timing belt tensioner, which they replaced. It did it again the day I picked it up. They put a meter on it & said no codes operating as designed. It sounds like an oil pump or something that has to get up to pressure or something. They said don't worry, the car is under warranty. I am worried it will fail after the warranty. Has anyone encountered this ?
THANKS. drse@windstream.net

Just had the same problem which a little later turned into a knock instead of a rattle. I have a 2011 with a 2.4L and 9000 miles on it..

They just replaced the Serpentene belt from a bulletin on the issue, which by the way, the problem showed no codes.
It's only been 2 weeks or so but the noise is gone so far.

Have your service dept. look for the Technical Service Bulletin.

drse,

I suggest taking it back to the dealer to see if they can fix the problem. If the problem still persists after that, feel free to send me a PM with your information and VIN so can set up a case. Thank you!

I have heard the noise from mine also, 2006 2LT. It is a very fast tapping that only lasts a second or so. It only happens every so often with mine though. I havnt been able to replicate it on command.

I have had the same issue with my 07 1LT 2.4, with 35k miles. Only does it every now and then, sounds like its coming from the back/top of the motor, maybe the flex pipe on cold startup? Its never done it when warmed up, only when sitting overnight in the garage, and even then, its very sporadic.

The sound seems to be coming from the same spot as you describe. Normally it would only do it on cold start up, but has become more frequent. Back to the dealership tomorrow. What was the bulletin that was mentioned earlier ?
