Noise / rattle at start up

ChevyMgr is no longer with this forum.
As far as your questions....my opinion would be to, yes have the serpentine belt especially with the mileage accumulated. The rest is a personal choice, but I would have those inspected and evaluated (don't be surprised if the dealership recommends those, as well as other, repairs made). They are in THAT business and do not make money unless work is done.
But, because you apparently referenced the TSB mentioned above, I would just take it to the dealer and discuss the noise issue (reference the TSB mentioned) and tell them you wish to have the noise removed/repaired. Note however, the TSB discusses a different year than you own......so your problem may not be what is referenced. Never tell a dealer you want this or that changed if you are not ABSOLUTELY sure that is the cause of your problem......YOU ARE NOT THE "PROFESSIONAL" here (at least I don't think so). You could be throwing parts at the problem with un-necessary expenses.

Service writers tend to get uppity when you try to show them things you got from the internet, whether it's straight from a GM web site or not.
"ANY thing from the internet is bogus and it's not my job to look for TSBs" I was told. That is very close to verbatim. After I made a loud scene and got the Service Manager's attention I got him to admit that the TSB I had in my hand was real and my RCDLR got reprogrammed.

I haven't been on the forum in a while, but just learned a HARD lesson about the timing chain guides. My '07 was rattling at start up since the spring time, first once a week, then once or twice and eventually every time I started it. I knew it wasn't normal, but it started happening so often I thought maybe it WAS normal. It went away after a minute of driving, after all!
On October 16 the car went in the shop because the CEL came on and the error code was a bad camshaft position sensor. Turned out the sensor was fine, it was the rapidly degrading timing chain, guides and bent valves that were the problem!
The repair is nearly finished, but after nearly a month in the repair shop and $1600 to $2000 to fix the damn thing I encourage any owner to get it inspected AS SOON AS the noise starts. And I'd just paid the damn loan off on the 15th...

I have a 2011 hhr that had the timing chain guide break at about75,000.It made the chatter/clatter noise about ten times before it would not start. After getting it back from chevy it went maybe 2000 miles and started making the noise again. Now Im at 89,000 waiting for it to break again. Will try serp belt but dont hold my breath!!!
