Noise Under dash-Brake Pedal?
I just started getting a noise under the dash right near the brake pedal. A psssssssssssssssssss like air leaking. A couple taps on the brake pedal and it stops. I happens 95% of the time I use the brakes. It has even happens when I turn the car on for the first time in the morning. The car brakes fine, I haven't noticed any difference in pressure with the pedal. Any ideas?

I'd first try to verify it..like shut down motor and right after hit brakes and see if its still there, you'll hear it better(radio, fans etc off of course) then start junk yarding it...everything else is bolts if your mechanically inclined.Othewise you could keep going if its not annoying, if it gets really bad you'll notice the brake feel going hard....
Though, you say that hitting the brakes stops the noise..hmmmmhow long will it hiss if you just sit there?

Welp....boosters dont have but a few parts with the diaphram being the main deal, so start preparing. About $50 for an A1 Cardone booster plus core charge at Racepages.com....other then access space they are really not that hard to change out..just have to be careful handling the master cylinder, some have to be removed and some don't. Unless you have ABS bleeding the brakes is straight forward too if you need to remove the mc. Try to snag a manual someplace and read up before you try to tackle it or maybe decide to let the "shop" handle it. Your ok for now but if you ever start to get a steady hiss its time, if you lose the booster you do not lose brakes, you just have manual brakes.

turned out to be the brake booster after all. finally fixed it after 18 months, not because it failed, the noise was just getting to be to much. of course, fix 1 thing and something else goes - had to replace the front struts a month later! still, not bad for 116k miles on it.

116k for front struts is excellent as far as I am concerned. Mine started weaping oil before 50k. Just replaced them at 80k and both they and the rear shocks were just paper weights by then. Glad you got everything fixed.
