You should see acceptable oil consumption on heavy duty diesel engines if you think that is bad.

 

The Owner Manual also clearly states that ANY place between high and low on the dipstick is OK. I just got into a panic recently, I did a oil & filter change 5 Qts oil and the dipstick read 1/2 between H-L after 1K, I had to re-RTFM to calm myself down. It is a range, not a measurement thing. You only need to worry if the dipstick shows less than the low mark, sorry the book is in the car so I can't site the page.

If I do an overnight cold check, my dipstick reads a tad overfull..

Which I know it is not, but after running it & letting it set 15 mins or so, stick reads perfectly full..

And agree anywhere in the H/L range is acceptable.

 

Also, I checked mine with one front tire jacked up enough to remove, oil at the ADD line. The moral of the story is "Don't Panic" unless on level ground your dipstick shows "Less Than Zero" or more than full & growing.
