if u want just unplug the abs connector and see if your gauges clear up yes u will get a abs and trac control light but if u take the abs brain out out the system u should see if the gauges work right and stop freaking out , u can even change the brain but if the part num don't match or u don't refresh its gone have lights , but the crazy should go away ,,, gl

I don't see any symptom that points to the EBCM. Following the simple procedure in post #16 will narrow it down to which module. But go ahead and start throwing parts at it, that approach works, too. Especially if you have a lot full of donor HHRs.

I don’t see hellshotrod recommending throwing parts at it, just explaining a procedure that worked for him. He does warn that if you do change the brain you do have to code it to your vin.

Ok
So it is raining all day here in Charlotte so I am spending the time on my computer reading all of the info everyone has sent. Thanks to everyone. I do not want to just start throwing parts at it, I really want to try and sort this out since it has been exhibiting these conditions on and off for a number of years. Usually it may run for one or two years without showing any signs of gauges jumping and throwing codes. I am going to start with the video linked by don brew to check the CAN bus network with my meter but I think I want to get a OBD Breakout box, I don't trust myself to check it directly in the DLC socket. I am always a sucker for buying more tools. Hopefully it is nice tomorrow so I can start checking the front hubs and ABS connectors. I have downloaded the how to to replace hubs, it looks pretty simple. I am looking for photographs or illustrations that show where all of the computers are located from the ECU, TCM, ABS, etc so I know what I am looking at.

Again thanks for all of the posts and I will follow this through and report back.

Yes that is where I am going to start. It was a very good video. Also all of you have been great sharing your experiences, I really appreciate it and no one has suggested just throwing parts at it. The main issue is that right now the car is running perfect and not showing any signs. I still have the codes stored but the check engine light is off so I am worried that as of right now I won't find anything wrong with any of the computers when I start checking things. I will follow up this weekend and when it stops raining, right now I need to do some more reading and watching more videos.

I don't see anyone mentioning hellshotrod. I don't do that. I was referring to the OP saying he was going to start with the "ABS brain" (EBCM), for no reason at all.

In fact, I was mostly agreeing with him, without mentioning his name, as requested.

I was confused by the lot full of donor HHR’s part.

Good afternoon

I have been going over all of the plugs on the computers and so far everything looks good and clean. I am having a problem of removing the connector to the TCM. I have removed the red pin and pushed the gray lever to the right and it pushes the plug but it will not come loose from the TCM. I don't want to put pressure on it and break it. All of the other black plugs below it came off easy so am I missing something on the blue plug.

Well, I went back out and pulled a little harder and I worked the connector off. I think the gasket was stuck. It looks perfect inside so on to the next.
