Angry OH NO!!! someone's blow-out...

Hurt my baby!! On the freeway today, someone in an adjoining lane had a blow- out and a bunch of his tire hit my hhr on the right front side.

There are lots of black scuffs and I thought that it busted my fog lamp. We'll, it's busted alright but still in the little compartment. When I reach my hand it there, I can grab the whole part, but don't know how to get it out. Can anyone help?

Also, what other hidden damage should I be looking for?

I'm so sad.

I found a nice little video on here from an older thread. Will be watching that tonight to see if this is something I can handle.

But still, anything I should be watching for?

Ever heard of "insurance" ( I know, California ), that is the adjuster's job. In my state we are required to have "uninsured motorist" coverage, even if we don't have full coverage.

Yikes, I'm certainly hoping my for lamp won't be as much as my 500 buck deductible! Egads!

Deductible? Was it your fault? Have you even checked with your insurance company?

Hindsight is 20/20, but you should have stopped and got the tag and maybe a police report. Oh well, a lesson learned.

Yep, definitely a good lesson for next time. The Good news is that the tire only pushed the fog lamp into the space behind it. My mechanic was able to remount it and it's all good. Didn't break the lens or anything. Yay!

But if it ever happens again, I'll be sure to get insurance info. Thanks for your help!

Glad to hear things turned out well for you.

I make it a habit to keep a small notepad, pencil, and cheap digital camera in the dashboard cubbyhole of all my HHR's "just in case".

the incident and fog lamp aside, I'm glad to see no mention of any injury to you, or the other person. A blow out can cause major damage and a nasty wreck, with injurys to both cars occupants
Now did a little elbow grease and buffing compound remove the black tire marks off your paint?

Very good idea. I have the camera on my phone but putting a notebook in the funny has now been done. Thank you!

Blow outs are scary! I remember having one and it startled me so bad. I'm presuming no injuries as I saw the other driver pull to the side of the freeway. He had been in the slow lane so didn't have to go far.

And my mechanic cleaned up all the black marks for me. I had planned on doing it after he remounted the fog light but he beat me to it. She is back to normal. Yay!
