oil in coolant
06 hhr lt 2.4, has 107,000 miles. i checked the oil a week ago and it wasnt even on the dipstick, check the coolant and theres all my missing oil... didnt really start checking into it until i was driving one day and my temp went up too 216, i live in michigan so its pretty cold right now so this was red flag number one. driving it was fine 199-201 no problems. popped the hood yesterday and all my coolant hoses super soft which means their breaking down... dex cool is still in it so i was thinking that was the problem for that but once again the oil in the coolant... doesnt have a oil cooler either... so before i take the head off does anyone have any other ideas

Welcome to the site Are you showing any signs of coolant in the oil? If the head gasket has failed and oil is being push into a coolant passage when the car is shut off the coolant under pressure should push coolant into the oil.
Dex cool can turn brown, look ugly and can be mistaken for oil if the coolant has not been serviced regularly.

i know rule of thumb for bad head gaskets is coolant in the oil, but in this case its the other way around. not trying to say i know it all but ive been working on cars for years now. I bought the car off of my mother who bought it new in 06, the thing was in and out of the shop within the first 10,000 miles having problems with coolant leaking, which from what i know some of these cars had oil coolers so i was thinking maybe that went out again but it doesnt have one now. i bought it last year with 85,000 on it and havnt had a problem until now. car has always been maintained very well. im just curious if anyone else has had this problem before and also what is my best course of action. also during all the problems at the beginning of its life the dealer ended up changing the motor

When you say "doesn't have an oil cooler now" are you saying it had one that failed before? Could it be just left over oil in the coolant system? I'm not trying to talk you out of a head gasket. I'm just thinking things through.

If it was removed, was it removed properly? And why?
If it was done recently, could be the oil line was connected to the coolant line.

Its 06 and was literally one of the first ones made. When i bought the car i changed the coolant, should have put the universal kind in instead of dexcool. And its never leaked oil or burned it. only other place it could go is coolant.

when it had all the problems with coolant leaking and wanting to over heat when first bought in 06 it was always taken to the dealer to be worked on. only thing that was ever touched by me is normal maintenance. From what i can tell so far it looks as tho there was a oil cooler bc of the way some of the old clamps are still there. and to be honest im a little disappointed in the quality of work they have done

Well, I think either this is BS or you need to learn how to communicate. I just don't understand some of the strings of words.
So I'll just close the thread.
