Oil Cooler

Haas anyone installed an oil cooler in an early 2006 HHR 2.4 LT. Chev. had oil coolers in the first 6 months or so of the HHR and later did away with them. Oil leaking need to replace? Repair? Seals? Any Advice or help.....Thanks

Really?

Girlfriend just got an 06 - where is the old cooler and what did they do to replace it - just decide that the oil was cooled with the engine coolant? Does anyone have pictures of with and without to show where this part might or might not be?

Andyman- Welcome...

Carryover Features & Benefits from 2007 model year

Eliminate External Oil Cooler
The Ecotec 2.4L I4 VVT is no longer fitted w/external oil cooler. Validation tests have demonstrated that, w/durability enhancing features such as increased coolant capacity & targeted oil jets that cool the underside of the pistons, the oil cooler is not required even during extreme operating conditions.

'06 Oil Cooler Location

The early production models of the HHR had oil coolers located to the top right of the motor right beside the oil filter area. Apparently mid 2006 production Chev did away with the oil coolers so this is why you may not have heard or seen them. I purchased my vehicle in June of '05 and was the 3rd HHR ever made. A smallgroup of HHR's were released in late June as an introduction before general production began. I love this car and this is the first thing that has gone bad after 75K and app. 5.5 years old so I have no complaints. Looking for any advice because I need to replace asap as the cooler is leaking badly. I am going to attempt this weekend. Doesn't look like to big of an ordeal the wiring harness that encircles it's location I believe is going to be more of a hassle than actually replacing. Part goes for $300 with GM discount app $170. Shop wanted $470 to do the job so I figured I might have to take a shot at this myself. Thanks for any help/advice. Love this site. If I could upload a picture of location I would but can't figure out how to do......

Andyman-

Not having a clue to it's look, size or even if it's hard line connected, why not use a universal type for low cost & hook up with hose & clamps ?

Just a thought..

Early '06 Oil Cooler

Andyman-

It looks more like a "heat-sink" type, than a radiator style (air flow thru) cooler.
Can't see the connections, but posted the pic for ya.

You just right click on it,
then click on "Properties" & copy & paste the URL & add [img] URL goes here w/no spaces [/img] tags, like this.
just a FYI.
