Didn't want to revive a dead thread for no reason but had a quick question; does anyone know exactly when they removed the oil cooler? My HHR was built 11/05 as per the door sticker and I don't seem to have one on my engine.

Some early '07 2.4's had them , the 2.0 Turbo SS had them '08 thru '10, if yours doesn't have one its all good, they were deemed redundant, some have replaced the oil cooler with a plate and fittings, plumbed to a remote air cooled unit, I've got over 200,000 miles on my 2.2 with no oil cooler and no issues.

oil cooler

aradmahogany.....My HHR was manufactured before Chev went into mass production (Manuf. June 2005) but I was told by Chevrolet that they did away with the oil coolers shortly after mass production (app. 6 months of the '06 models). I had not heard that they still put oil coolers in the early '07 2.4's. With that said Chevrolet no longer carries the oil cooler so it is either re-build, junk yard (have to be lucky to find) or as mentioned in other response you can go after market. good luck they are a pain in the _______to get out.

Yeah I just popped my hood and took a peak and there is definitely NOT an oil cooler.... I have the car fax for the vehicle and it indicated one ow3ner and no mention of rebuild or replacement of the engine...However the timeline matches what you said as far as 6 Mo. as my car was built late 05 in November. Maybe they had already gotten rid of it by then" no piping or anything that I can see is connected either.

Mine was built in September 05 according to the door sticker and it has one. It started leaking too. I need to replace the seals.
