I'm surprised that they put out a TSB on this?
I'm sure it is a cost savings measure, and they really are useless....

Are you talking about the cup holder or just the liner? I am confused because both are worthless.

Talk about useless! Like dbfruth said! My friends fight over who gets to put one of their drinks in it, and then the other has to hold theirs. Speaking of useless, did I mention the middle seat in the back? What size person other than an infant can fit in that? Seats 5? Yeah right! If we go on a roadtrip with more than 4 people, guess I'll have to take the Lumina. (Although that starts back with cupholders....)

#08-07-29-001D: EI08046 - Manual Transmission Grinds in Either Third or Fourth Gear When Clutch is Fully Disengaged (Replace 3rd and 4th Gear Sleeve Hub Assembly, Speed Gear Assemblies and Shift Fork) - (Mar 26, 2009)

Subject: EI08046 - Manual Transmission Grinds in Either Third or Fourth Gear When Clutch is Fully Disengaged (Replace 3rd and 4th Gear Sleeve Hub Assembly, Speed Gear Assemblies, and Shift Fork)

Models: 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt, HHR

2008 Pontiac G5

Equipped with Manual Transmission (RPO M86)

Prior to the Serial Numbers Shown Below
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This bulletin is being revised to update service procedure and include additional service parts. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 08-07-29-001C (Section 07- Transmissions)

Models
Transmission P/N Transmission Serial Number

Cobalt XFE 24248018 61 YEH 08058387

Cobalt, G5 (STD) 24241747 61 YED 08083169

HHR 24241746 61 YEC 08062188

Condition
Some customers may comment on a grinding noise in third or fourth gear when the clutch is fully disengaged.

Cause
Based on feedback provided by dealer technicians, engineering was able to determine the manual transmission grinding in 3rd or 4th gear. It is possible to correct the condition by replacing the 3rd and 4th Gear Sleeve Hub Assembly, Speed Gear Assemblies, and Shift Fork

Correction

Check the Transmission Serial Number label to determine if the transmission is built prior to the chart above. The Transmission Serial Number label is located on the back side of the transmission between the halfshafts. If the transmission is built prior to the chart above, then replace the 3rd and 4th Gear Sleeve Hub Assembly, Speed Gear Assemblies, and Shift Fork.

My better half's 2009 HHR grinds going into 3rd and 4th, the dealer says it's normal. I will have her take this with her on the return trip. I also think the throwout bearing is bad. I can feel it vibrating when I push in on the clutch.

ChevyMgr,

How can I get a copy of this, or direct the dealer to this information?

In a way it did. I was looking up something else on GMs site and came across the TSB. I also remember a user wanting this information so I posted it if others need it. It's an old TSB with upated information.

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:
A technician may encounter a vehicle with a low boost/power condition and/or DTC P0299 and or P0101 setting. This may be the result of a cracked or broken fitting at the turbocharger assembly.

Recommendation/Instructions:
It has been determined that the nipple for the turbocharger wastegate actuator may be damaged causing this condition. If this concern is noted please inspect the area on the underside of the turbo compressor housing for the wastegate actuator solenoid valve. The nipple (see CALLOUT #1) may have been damaged causing a loss of boost pressure. It may be necessary to remove the charge air duct for a closer inspection. See eSI "Turbocharger Wastegate Actuator Replacement" for solenoid replacement procedure.

Attachment 3979

This solenoid is available separate from the turbocharger and should be replaced as a sub assembly. Do not replace the turbocharger assembly.
Brad,
Have you encountered a case for this TSB?
My dealer just ordered a replacement wastegate actuator.

Not yet. We have never had any SS in with any drivability problem. I see them come in, but never for that reason.

Of course most HHRs we sell are non SS. I bet we haven't sold 15 or 20 of the SS models since their first release. I see more SS cobalts with drivability concerns, than any other SS models.
