1. I don't consider 15 to 50mph fast.
2. I have driven half a dozen new HHR's over the last couple years and found non to have eccessive wind noise.
3. These 2 have by far more then normal noise.
4. I'll try my fixes first, and then take it to Chevrolet if there are any left.

That sounds like one of the spots ... Drivers side mirror.

Although I do expect a little noise there as HHR mirrors a larger and not really as aero dynamic as some.
I do like the fact they are big enough to see a little better.

 

Telling a service advisor your bringing your car in because you hear wind noises when driving from 15 to 50 mph.

And I'd definately go in a boat ride anyplace, even Canada

Maybe for you.

You evidently have a lot of tolerance for pain.

A wind noise complaint at those speeds is an issue and should be considered unusual.

A complaint at 70-80mph ... now that's might be funny.

Most roads where I live won't tolerate 70-80 mph.


I have no intention of driving Brand New Cars with issues that bother me at most all speeds.

My reason for posting is to possibly help others that have a similar issue and would like to take advantage of my efforts.

Nothing more.

 

My 08 has been a noisey MF'r since day 1. I wont be keeping this car much longer. Sucks to look soooo good and drive so crappy.

 

Mine was the mirrors. Other than that I have suffered little in noise even with the bad roads in Ohio.

To be honest I fix noises for there most part on my own. They are not hard to deal with if you can finde them. The mirrors I let the dealer do since it was a TSB.

 

no much noise here either on the 08 - a little from the sunroof but the radio covers it up...so no biggie

I find the issues are,

1. Rattles/Clunks/Sqeaks ...I fixed the only rattles/clunks/Squeaks That I have had so far.

2. Wind noise ... As you know I am eliminating it one area at a time.
I might not be able to get it pefect but I'll take "much better"

To me the excessive wind noise is a lot like being Sea Sick on the Ocean in a Storm and the waves just keep comming.
Not a fun thing when you might drive the vehicle 150,000 miles or more.
Fix it while it's New and possibly under Warranty if you can't find it.

3. Tire Noise, if Performance is not top priority ... Thats a tough one as it's to expensive to just test tires.

About your only chance is to take another persons recomendation.
Someone you know that has the ability to give you honest, true, and accurate advise.
Don't neccesarily believe the manufactures info.
I like Michelin Tires but there stats are very misleading.
I put a new set of Top Rated Michelin Primacy MXV4 on one of these HHR's replacing the OEM Firstone AffinityTouring tires that came with the car.
Michelin Stats Rail about it's Soft Ride and Quietness with Top Reviews as well.
It aint so !!!
It's great in other areas but not in NOISE especially.
Only on a Freshly Asphalted Road is it quiet.
The lowly Firstones were actually quieter and a little softer ride too.
Where I live they allow Studded Tires 5 months of the year and the hiways are all like cobblestone paths. Noisy as H--L.
I think I would try the Kelly Touring Gold next time for Quietness and soft ride.
