2008 HHR posted code P0010
168000 miles
do I need to replace solenoids or what parts?

As you see in here, the code pertains to the VVT solenoids which control oil flow to the cam actuators , I suggest you change both, intake and exhaust.

I will thanks. Sorry for the stupid questions but do you know what kind of rear brakes the 2008 has and do I have shoes or pads?

If it's an SS, it needs pads. LS or LT, shoes. Of course, remote possibility that someone converted the LS/LT to rear disc brakes, so you really should have a look.

Ok so I went out to my car to go get the intake and exhaust solenoids and to my surprise the check engine light did not come on!! The only thing I’ve done is have a high quality oil change. When I left the light was still on but today it is off. Could an overdue oil change cause a P0010 code? Do I need to replace the solenoids if the check engine light is off?

I would tend to say that old and dirty oil COULD cause the issue.
Personally, I only allow 3000 miles on my oil.
Time will tell if that was the issue.

Change the solenoids, at your mileage, they are tired.
