Why would anyone take delivery of a vehicle without a thorough check. If you saw visible paint issues when you bought it you should have either not taken delivery until corrected or at least reported them.

 

If I would have noticed the paint issues when I bought, it things would have been different. I was a first time new vehicle buyer and went to the dealership ignorant of issues like this. I noticed this stuff after washing the HHR.

 

Thanks. But what about the area on the hatch where I can see primer? Are you saying that an aftermarket paint job just wont hold up like the factory paint job?

I see where the problems are just cosmetic, but don't you think I should get compensated in some way (whether its free parts, repairs) if I decide to not have them fix it? I think so

And yeah, not everybody finds every little detail on a car during inspection...in my case it was friggin pouring rain

I'm hoping you get something out it...I notice quite a few corners that seem to be cut on the building of these cars...not enough to be a deal breaker pretty shoddy on some stuff whether it is a dealer installed thing or straight from the factory

That is a rather broad sweeping statement to make based on your own experience or even that of a statistically irrelevent sample size made up by this forum. We have less than 4000 members, many of which sought out forums because they have problems. The problems reported here by members do not necessarily reflect those of HHRs in general.

Furthermore dealer issues, whether regarding installations or not, are not a reflection of the vehicle or manufacturer. They are all businesses independent of the manufacturer and if one is not happy with one's dealer, don't do business there. If enough people did that, the dealer may not be around for long.

Now back to the paint issue at hand. Once delivery is taken, it may be more difficult to get paint issues fixed because the dealer does not know what the car has been subjected to and whether any other paint work may have been done post delivery. Now if we are taliking couple of days, that may be easier. But if any appreciable amount of time has passed, it may be a hard sell to get the dealer to do the work under any sort of warranty.

My remark on checking over the vehicle before delivery seems to me to be common sense. I inspect anything I plan on buying for damage before I buy it. No you may not find everything, but you would find the major stuff and visible primer would be quite noticeable I would expect.

In any case, Ashton, good luck and stick to you guns. I hope you get your paint issues resolved to your satisfaction and at no cost to you.

 

The primer issue is another problem, and that depends on weather you’re talking about primer over spray on the inside of the hatch or the outside. Or are we talking a lack of painted surface and clear coat over primer. If this is the case you will have to have that repainted and cleared, and yes repainting a car does not hold up as well as a factory paint job in most cases. You’re not at fault here and you want your new car to be right and you want to be happy. Just remember dealing with this dealership to be nice and respectful you will get a lot better attention using honey, and not pissing vinegar. As far as being compensated, yes their responsible for doing the repairs at no cost to you. They should also set you up with a rental while your car is in the shop, just be nice when asking for what they owe you. If your not pleased with their service check another dealership let them know why your unpleased and ask for their help.

Check the following pic for where the visible primer is. I'm pretty sure its just where the robot paint gun failed. This is only visible if you look closely, maybe from a foot away. We are talking a lack of painted surface and clear coat over primer. The primer is visible right on the bend underneath where the liscense plate would be.


Back to the Dealer not wanting to fix this due to the vehicle having work done somewhere else, that's probably what's going to happen. I was hit by some lady one day on the front fender. Work was done only to the front bumper and left fender. The bodyshop waxes and buffs all cars when they are done. The service reps already tried blaming them... of course.

 

I want it fixed, but I don't want it to not be able to hold up to the factory paint job. Now I'm stumped.


As for the broken shifter button, that was fixed the same day. A new POS radio was ordered, and I should have that work done at the same time I talk to a GM rep here soon. The killswitch problem may never be fixed, since the dealer no longer installs them. They were to give me some info on who I could take it to, but they have yet to do that.

 

If they have a good body shop, the paint will last just as long as the factory. Even better with the correct prep.
