Passenger Airbag Cover
#22
I have a dashcover on my Intrepid from this company: www.dashhugger.com ... and it looks good. High quality, really makes the dash look better. I've had it for a few years or so. I sent an e-mail to the company asking them if they made any for the HHR yet. It would solve the problem and make the dash look good. As soon as I get a replyfrom the company, I will post it. I can snap a picture of mine on the Intrepid tomorrow if I can.

Okay, so I've just been told by GM, after having my car in the shop, that at this point there is no fix for this problem. They looked at the HHR's on the lot and they all have this discoloration. Apparently, within this rectangle attached to the cover sits some sort of module. Why the discoloration is happening they couldn't really say but becuase there has been nothing released about this from the GM corporate office nothing can be done at this point.
I might try to fire off an email with a picture to someone if I can find some contact information. I hate calling the GM toll free numbers.

Okay, so a little update. I have finally emailed customer service or whomever at GM Canada (yes, things take a like while to get done in my world.)
I have just gotten off the phone with a representative who has documented my/this problem. She has said that they contacted a dealer and had them examine the HHR's on the lot and in fact all of them are showing this discoloration. At this point they do not have this listed as a problem as I am the first to call in or make GM Canada aware of this. At some point if there are more complaints/concerns about this it will be forwarded on to their technical division to look into why this is occurring and further look into how it can be fixed.
Well, I'm not happy at all. I asked why it is required that people make this known to them when in fact they have checked new vehicles on the lot and they all have this discoloration.
I was told this is a "characteristic" of the HHR. Meaning, because they all have this live with it because everyone else is doing so.
Well, I know it's not a big problem. It doesn't affect performance, nor safety nor anything else but it's a cosmetic concerns and is bothers me.
Hopefully, at some point a solution will be produced.
So, I guess, you folks down south might want to contact GM and the few folks up here in Canada might also want to do the same thing (if you are bothered by this as much as I am.)

I gotta say, this is some of the silliest drivel I've seen since the sandblasted quarter panels "issue". People, I don't know how many of you have owned a car with a passenger airbag mounted on the top of the IP, but they ALL have some kind of lines or weird reflection on them. It's just how the plastic reacts to having a component underneath it that expands and contracts differently than what is on the other parts of the IP.
IT'S NOT A BIG DEAL. STOP CALLING THE 1-800 NUMBER OR BUGGING YOUR SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND GET A LIFE!! IF YOU HATE THE CAR, SELL IT!!!

crafty, last I checked it wasn't wrong to demand some level of perfection. With the last three cars I have had, all GM, none have had this type of problem. All have had passenger airbags hidden away in some manner and never have I seen any sort of marking from them.
I haven't seen this on any other vehicle either. This goes from the cheapest econo-box to high end luxury cars. If I was buying a new HHR and saw this on the dash I would think twice or three times about buying it. Mine was not like this over a year ago when I bought it.
Aren't these the types of problems and concerns that GM should be worried about. This is why they have 800 numbers and service reps and stuff like that.
If you provide a ****ty product then you should expect to hear about it. If you don't fix it you should expect to lose clients or buyers or whatever.

I just went out and checked mine. To be honest I do not see it. I felt around the spot in question and only then did I feel what could be the indent some of you have and then I was not even 100% sure. So at this time I am not going to worry, only keep an eye on mine to see what it does.
I am not taking anyone's side in this,
Does it seem like a silly thing to complain about? Yes
Are there other issues that might make more sense to complain about? Yes
Should you complain about it? Up to the person. You have the right to do so, you should also expect things to be made correctly.
Just because someone feels they need to say something to GM does not make them wrong or complaining about the wrong stuff.
If it works and GM say's yes lets fix it, I bet the ones who say "what a supid thing to complain about" will be running to get it fixed and not than those who did the work. my
