It's just how the plastic reacts to having a component underneath it that expands and contracts differently than what is on the other parts of the IP.
IT'S NOT A BIG DEAL. STOP CALLING THE 1-800 NUMBER OR BUGGING YOUR SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND GET A LIFE!! IF YOU HATE THE CAR, SELL IT!!!

I haven't seen this on any other vehicle either. This goes from the cheapest econo-box to high end luxury cars. If I was buying a new HHR and saw this on the dash I would think twice or three times about buying it. Mine was not like this over a year ago when I bought it.
Aren't these the types of problems and concerns that GM should be worried about. This is why they have 800 numbers and service reps and stuff like that.
If you provide a ****ty product then you should expect to hear about it. If you don't fix it you should expect to lose clients or buyers or whatever.

People who call 800 numbers and waste the reps' time and attention over NOTHING are the reason why less money is being spent on product development and too much money is being spent paying people to answer phones over douchebag issues like this one. People who make appointments to get **** like this looked at by the dealer are wasting everyone else's time who have REAL service issues like bad alternators, transmission service, and replacing bad hatch latches. You know, stuff that makes the car actually NOT WORK or RUN POORLY.
NFBOY...There are two things that really drive me up the wall. Carnies and people who jump to defend pointless ramblings on internet forums. You can either be part of the solution or part of the problem, and I get a sense that a lot of the people here would rather be part of the problem.

A problem is a problem. It doesn't matter how big or small, it's GM's (and all other car makers) job to make sure their product has some level of quality. Yeah, the HHR is a lower end car but that doesn't mean that they can provide a ****ty product and worse yet ****ty customer service.
Maybe this kinda things shows up on cars over the years but what about all those new HHR's sitting on the lot with this discoloration. If it was me running the show I wouldn't even sell that ****, it would be fixed before it even hit the customers driveway.
And like you stated these are man made. Anything man made is going to have problems and hence the need for these service phone numbers and reps.
If others and I weren't calling in our problems then these people working at call centres would be out of jobs. Then you got a bunch of workless, homeless people causing even greater problems.
I'm not sure what the point of forums is right now. Isn't this supposed to be a place where we can talk about what we liked about these cars, what we want to do to these cars and the problems we are having with these cars. I'm just trying to get some solutions to what I think is a problem.

If you go in to a persons profile you can choose to either ignore them or add them to your buddy list. If you choose ignore you no longer see posts by that person. I'm sure I'm on a few peoples ignore lists myself.

I've has a DASH MAT on all of my cars from day one. I have never looked at the air bag cover, it covered. I like the mat, it keeps the sun off at all times. I had a 81 Datsun 4x4 and after about 10 year the car was broken into and they damaged the dash. The insureance company gave my 100% replacement value for the dash because there was no sign of fading or cracking, well worth the $25.00 for the mat. I even have one on my 65' El Camino.

HELLO. You bought a man-made economy car. I'm thinking some corners were cut when they decided not to build the car out of billet titanium.
