Popping noise out of exhaust

Hi guys
Recently ive been hearing this sort of pop noise coming from the exhaust. I have a 5 speed SS. Never heard the noise when I had my cobalt tcss.
Anyway, it happens when I'm going into second gear mostly. It just kinds makes this pop. It doesn't happen all the time but a little more frequently and I'm getting worried.
Anyone else have a similar issue?

Sounds like an injector is sticking and causing you to go rich. When my 3G eclipse was turbocharged it would pop like you are saying but I knew it was going too rich.

unburned gasoline(running rich) will ignite in the exhaust at somepoint. thats probably the "pop" your hearing. the others posters are %100 correct

The thing is is that it never did it before though. I got the car with 902 miles and now 7500. I don't see what could have changed but I'm concerned now. Its quite an embarrassing noise for it to make.

i would try some fuel system cleaner. maybe that'll do the trick? GM recommends it because of the fact that there is no in line fuel filter. the dealer tried to get me to pay like $50 or $60 for it. its less than $10 at an autoparts store and you just put it in when you fill up.

oh and your a miami dolphins fan from texas?

The neighbor gals just bought a new Cobalt this spring like maybe three months ago. It has the 2.4 engine just like my HHR has {as far as I know there is no difference between a '06 and '11 2.4 ecotech 4 cylinder} and they had the same problem.

The dealer had the car for three days, they said they had cleaned the injectors.

I'm wondering if they just put a jug of the injector cleaner from walmart in it and drove it till the tank was empty then returned the car.

It was covered by the warranty so I guess it doesn't matter.

I've got a 5 speed. Does the "pop" also.
EX. In 1st gear, take off. When I let off the gas and depress clutch for the 2nd gear shift, that is when it "pops".
Strange that it doesn't do it all the time. I'd say about half the time. I've tried to recreate the issue(speed, rpm) Can't find the exact scenario to make it do it every time.
Oh well. I just think it is normal based on the design of the stock SS exhaust set up.

YES! Exactly what mine does. I myself try to recreate the sound but no luck, only does it when it feels like it. Kinda glad someone else knew exactly what I was talking about.

And yes Badassbowtie, I'm a proud Miami Dolphins fan... though it has been an awful time to be one. I'm assuming you're a Bills fan? Rather see them win the AFC East then the Jets or the Patriots.
