And yes Badassbowtie, I'm a proud Miami Dolphins fan... though it has been an awful time to be one. I'm assuming you're a Bills fan? Rather see them win the AFC East then the Jets or the Patriots.
i am! and the bills are moving in a positive direction for once....exciting to be a bills fan for the first time in a while

Anyone else have a similar issue?
I can understand your concerns about what you are hearing in your HHR SS. I realize your time is valuable. I do recommend contacting the Chevrolet dealership that you trust and have them look into this for you.
Let me know if you would like assistance making an appointment.

EX. In 1st gear, take off. When I let off the gas and depress clutch for the 2nd gear shift, that is when it "pops".
Strange that it doesn't do it all the time. I'd say about half the time. I've tried to recreate the issue(speed, rpm) Can't find the exact scenario to make it do it every time.
Oh well. I just think it is normal based on the design of the stock SS exhaust set up.
Just out of curiosity, is this something like a "back fire" noise? Please, keep in mind I am not a technician, but I am curious if that is something that it can be compared to.

I would say yes. It's just not overly loud. Thus the description of it being a "pop". I still think it is just a result of the SS's exhaust design.

Just a guess here but.if its popping through the exhaust I would guess either exhaust valve is open for whatever. Reason or maybe running rich and igniting excess gas in exhaust.
I am guessing a good tech.Cam diagnose this with a scanner.

I had this noise under letting off the boost. It was right before I has the Map blow out of the replacment intake tube. It made the car run rich with a bad reading and under letting off the boost it would pop and flame out the trail pipe.

I think the rich mixture was just getting out of the pipe and it when it hit the air it would pop and flame. I never had a code till the weld on the tube holding the map in broke. It was an early made pipe that was installled after the IC was damaged.

FWIW. Mine has done this since new. 2 years. No codes. Runs fine. Before and after the GMTU. Personnally, I don't feel there is anything wrong. I just think it is a result of the SS exhaust design and the 5 speed combination.
It apparently runs a little rich at the 1-2 shift point and that seems to contribute to the "pop" or backfire. Granted, this is just my opinion, based only on observing my own car.
Also, I don't run the rpms up in first gear. I usually shift early, about the 12-15 mph range. This may lead to my car having any overrich fuel condition at the 1-2 shift.
Once again. Just my opinion.
