2006 HHR Starting issues
Haven’t even tagged this thing yet and it’s keeping me very busy with repairs lol. Thursday my HHr was very slow to turn over to start. Friday morning went to take it to shop to get it looked at and was still turning over slowly but would not start . Popped the hood turned it over again and noticed some smoke coming from the bottom of the engine. Assuming it has something to with starting system but haven’t ever had a bad starter smoke it self. Any ideas? It’s 2.2 4 cylinder engine.

My guess is the starter itself is toast - when they smoke it is not a good thing, and that is about the only thing down there that would cause problems like that.
Often the cause will be that the Oil Pressure Sending Unit on the front of the engine block, directly above the starter has started to leak and has gotten into the starter causing the problem.
Check out this thread that details replacing the Oil Pressure unit and the starter - https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/how-...ng-unit-57962/

Yes, yes I've heard of this !
You need a vacuum pump, collect it and put it back in a bottle. Make sure to recycle by throwing the bottle in the ocean. I do believe in Jeannie.
Seriously
If the oil pressure switch above is leaking, It can drip on the starter and wet it down. If the positive battery cable has a loose or dirty connection, that can cause heat to let the oil burn causing smoke. Also a bad connection there can cause the engine to crank over slow.
