[QUOTE=ScareDe2;892756]I have contacted the GM dealer and they said if it is not the little motor they would charge me $125+ an hour to find what it is. Can I trust them? Or should I do the repair myself?[/QUOT
Do you expect them to work for free? What are the symptoms?

I start my vehicule and sometimes the power steering warning appears and the steering gets hard. I restart it and it goes back to normal. It now intensify and happens while driving on the highway, sometimes. I may not have be clear with my last message. The dealer said that if it is the power steering motor they gonna do everything for free, but they have mentionned that if it is not the power steering motor, they gonna force me to accept a verification service that gonna cost me 3 digits. My question is this: are dealers trustworthy? Can I trust them that they will not try to make me pay for a service I don't need. or should I just do the repair myself.

If you are that scared, you can get a new motor on ebay for less than $100, the work takes minimal tools and takes about a half hour for a noob.
From your description I don't know what else it could be.

Not "agreeing" with the dealership, but the way this works around here... The "extended warranty" or "recall" is for the motor, only. If that's not the problem and it's something else it's not covered under that warranty. Many dealers in the US won't even change the motor without diagnosing the issue first and charging for that.

If they just changed the motor and the car wasn't fixed by this... Then they send somebody down the road with an unsafe car they could be liable if there were an accident.

Just the way I'm seeing it.

And just to be sure, it can't be a fuse problem, right? If a fuse goes bad the power steering would be permanently gone? Just to be sure before proceeding to buy a new power steering motor.

I am located in Quebec.

If you believe that the government is secretly resetting fuses maybe you would believe that. However, in this case it is a motor over heating and the builtin heat protection is kicking in.

If you too scared to get the other recalls done this would be a good time.
