power steering failure

My Daughter, while driving her 2010 HHR LT, power steering dashboard light came on. Read other articles about eps module going bad. Also read about resetting all fuses. What is the best solution for this problem? If replacing the eps module, where exactly is that located and can it bought at a local parts store? Also understand a recall was issued by GM for the Chevy Corbalt but not the HHR. Why not is the HHR since it's on the Corbalt drivetrain platform?

Call your local GM service department before you spend any money! There was a recall on the Cobalt, but the HHR may be covered anyway (not by recall, but whatever they call if it fails this way we fix it) or 3yr/36,000 mile. The 3 yr starts at the date of first titling.

It is a 15-20 minute fix and the part is around $114 from the dealer. So if you are out warranty you will not be out too much money nor time. It is located behind the drivers knee bolster on the steering column. If you search this forum there are threads detailing the process step by step and listing the 4 new style partnumbers for the correct replacement units. Note that all four will work so no need to pick one versus the other.

Get this done right away as now that this has happened it will start happening more and more frequently over the next week or two. Mine took only one week to start happening every single drive, even if the drive was only half a mile.

Just curious if you got any resolution on this. I had the same issue, replaced my power steering motor about a month or so ago and the problem came back this weekend.

I just had my 07 HHR in the dealer today for this issue. My power steering started failing frequently over the past two weeks. I was going to order the part and do the repair myself but I called the dealer first and asked if there was a recall on the issue... I was pleasantly surprised to find out it was a recall issue. Repair was fully covered by the recall.
