Power steering overheating

Since the middle of our nice Texas heat wave, the power steering indicator keeps coming up on my DIC. Yesterday I was running errands and it went off again. I turned off the car, which reset the error & regained the power steering, but throughout the day it kept happening. Not only that, but as the day went on it happened more frequently until I couldnt drive a few hundred feet without the error coming up.
Up to this point, I thought I was looking at a failing motor. Then, I drove to work this morning without a single incident. It was 86 degrees. It has got to be the heat.
Im not going to replace an old motor with a new one if the new one is just going to do the same thing.
Is there anything I could do to keep this from continuing. Insulation? Venting? Aftermarket motor, perhaps?

My only thought is just still driving it to notice other issue. Probably was just a coincidence (I had this issue about one year ago, and didn´t happen again). I think that currently it has insulation and designed to operate at high/low temps.

You may check the wiring harness as I understand the wires we possess in our vehicles are prone to fraying.

That would be a waste of time. It's the motor and replacement is the only fix.

The new motor would be the improved version that was used in the Cobalt steering motor recall..... You know, the recall that the HHR never got!!!

and here is a link to a thread on how the motor is swapped out - https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/how-tutorial-library-21/power-steering-motor-replacement-w-pics-31289/
Looks like a pretty easy and quick job.

Just do it

I'm finally going to break down and replace the electric motor. My dealer is giving me a different part number than I've been researching. The number they give me is 20763801. Is this a new supersede number?

I don't have access to a GM parts list, but I bet a quick call to your local GM dealer will get you your answer :)
