How are you sure the 1st fuel pump (in the gas tank) was bad ??

And you say you istalled a new fuel pump. Would you explain???? The fuel pump is in the fuel tank. Did you drop the tank to install?

Yes we dropped the fuel tank and installed a new fuel pump and it started right after that for 3 times, while leaving it running 10 minutes each time. By the 3rd time it started to bog down and loose pressure at the rail, again. So we jacked up the rear end again, beat on the fuel tank a few times, looked things over and she started again, so we lowered the jack while it was running and after about 10 seconds it died, again. So we jacked it up again, trying the same thing over. It did not work. Then we tried some other things, then back to the jack trick and it worked for about 10-15 starts and even drove it down and around the block, was working great. And then when we called it a night and I was about to go home, it did it again..

Because it would never turn on. When we put the new one in, it worked right away. But now this one is working intermittently which is making me wonder if my wires are bad somewhere along the line.

Fired up first time today and runs fine.... Going to get my exhaust fixed this week and we'll see if I still have a problem.

Problem solved for now... When the old pump went out and it is out, it slightly charred the fuse, but the fuse read out just fine on all our tests. But put a new fuse in and runs perfect all the time.

Actually the fuse should have blown, before charring..

But hopefully you remain good to go....

About 6 months ago our Fire Dept pickup (1997 Ford 150) had some running lights go out. I looked in the fuse box under the hood. There was a fuse that had the plastic melted so bad it had "oozed" yellow plastic into a quarter sized puddle! The metal part of the fuse was still intact, sticking up, bare metal, and had not blown! Weird is all I could think.

George- That is weird, that could burnt out the wiring.. Which we know the fuse is supposed to be the weak link.

We took it to the city garage. The mechanic cut those 2 wires off the backside of the fuseblock and put in an inline fuse.
Would have been ironic if the Fire Department vehicle had caught on fire.

Yeah the fuse wasn't blown. Voltage to it read fine on both ends, resistance was normal. Just slight char marks.. But I guess enough to get a bad contact.
