problems with idle on remote start?
#21
If your battery is low voltage or dying, it can cause your HHR (or any car) to act somewhat brain-dead. I couldn't believe the issue I was having with intermittent failure to start and remote start die out were both caused by a low voltage battery. A healthy battery is much more important with modern cars than they ever were.

I'm confused , in 2 minutes between posts you took it in for recall work? Or when did you get the work at the dealership done , before or after the new battery?
Please, list out a chronological course of events, so we can detect how this happened, as Don pointed out , Don't be surprised!

Took it in for recall work, drove it home and it sat for a couple days... It was cold out so I started it with the remote start.... I noticed it misfiring and saying something about ESC and traction control on the dash and the check engine light was on.... I ran my scanner on it and got C0561 abs disabled , P0300 multiple misfire and P0302 cylinder 2 misfire ..... I just bought a new battery and had it installed.... the check engine light was on still... when i drove it away from walmart... I stopped at a gas station shut it off went in... Came back out and when I started it back up ... the check engine light was off.... I got home ran the scanner on it again and no codes showed up.. It was running fine... I also tried the remote start and that was running fine to..... the next day I started it with the remote start, because it was covered in ice and snow.... when I went out to it I heard it misfiring again.. so I ran a scan on it again and all the codes came back up.... The C 0561 said history behind it, the P 0300 said current behind it and the P 0302 said pending behind it...

So basically at this point, you have a random misfire (P0300) and a misfire on cyl #2 pending (P0302). The C0561 is an old one - and should clear when you erase the codes.
A misfire problem can have several possible causes:
- bad sparkplug
- bad coil (does yours have separate oil packs for each cyl or a single unit for all 4 cycs?) - separate ones can be swapped between cylinders for diagnostic purposes - a p0300 kinda indicates it is not a single coil pack though
- bad valve in the head
and the list goes on
How many miles on the engine?

History means it happened and is now clear
Current means it is lighting the CEL
Pending means it happened once, if it happens again in a predefined time it will become Current
P0302 just means #2 cylinder misfired when the test was looking at it
P0300 means more than one cylinder is misfiring randomly

I'd drive it for a few days to allow the computer to figure out the problem!
Don't keep clearing the codes, let the computer test and reset itself!
It will need a few cycles to determine the issue !

It has just over 70k on the miles.... and as far as driving it for a awhile I will probably do... ,but for how long and should I still pursue the dealership in regards to them maybe messing something up?
