I see some type of sealant or anti-seize gushing out.

I think that’s a spot of paint to show the oil change company the oil filter cap hasn’t been tampered with.

I'm talking about the tan stuff all around the cap.

Oh, that, what is that? Oil sludge not wiped off whilst the cap and filter was out of the way?
perhaps white lithium grease applied to the threads of the plastic cap, but the excess didn’t get cleaned off?

There is a paint spot but I’m talking about the whiteish or yellow around the rim. Took these pics the other day and it just struck me as a little strange. Got a new filter to put in so I will get back to you on the findings.

Goodness gracious, I read through this thread and is it that complicated to do a simple oil filter change? I tend to take my cars to an oil change place in the winter to have my oil changed but guess I'll be getting on the ground in the cold to change it on my own after reading all of this stuff. The dealer always has specials that make it cheaper than the smash and grab oil changers, but I wonder if even they do this the right way. At least I know to use only the AC/Delco filter with the included cap. Thanks for all posting on this subject.

Why would you waste money replacing the cap every time?

I guess that's how the AC filters come, based on what I read.
