Radio Issues - Need Input
Greetings to all,
I have a 2007 LS model and I have had issues with the radio unit stop working off and on the entire time I have owned it.
I am wanting to switch out the OEM unit that came in it with an upgraded OEM radio unit from another model year.
I am wondering if the problem is specific to the 2007 LS model or are there other model years that have had the same issue.
I would like to get information on those that HAVE and HAVE NOT had issues with your radio unit - please post the following information . . .
Radio Issues (Yes / No)
Year
Model (LS, LT1, LT2)
Single CD or Multi CD
XM Radio (Yes / No)

'06 LS - Standard system, single CD (converted to Pioneer premium system)...no issues at all.
'07 LS - Pioneer premium system, Multi CD/MP3, XM Radio...no issues at all.
'11 2LT - Pioneer premium system, Multi CD/MP3, XM Radio...no issues at all.
It sounds like you have a bad head unit, possibly one with a "cold solder" joint somewhere on the board.

Boy, talk about a well timed thread. I have a 2010 SS with the Pioneer, 260 watt, 7 speaker, single CD system with XM. On Monday morning of this week, the sound started to cut in and out. Next, the power would completely cut out - no clock, no station display or anything. It goes in to the dealer next Monday!

2007 LT, All sound would stop but the radio was still illuminated. Only way to get sound back was to turn the vehicle off and back on and problem would be gone. My son ended up being childish and punching the radio which effectively destroyed it. I bought one on Ebay for cheap and then my son totaled the HHR. Never had a problem with the second radio though.

07 LS radio is premium multi cd, bought car new, always had problem with the sound, always seemed muffled and can't really hear rear speakers. Went to dealer three times and their stereo specialist said it was normal. I find the system to be total crap, also when its really cold with the system off I get a pulsing sound through speakers until car warms up.

I have an 08 LS with the 6 speaker xm radio and I have a problem losing the passenger side speakers frequently. Wet, cold, days especially. When it sits in the sun it seems fine although the volume sucks. Just not loud enough for me. I still have plenty of warranty left but what a PITA to go through that for the stereo. I would rather upgrade to a better system anyway.
Just bought the wife a 2011 Malibu LT and the stereo is awesome. It's louder than mine at half the volume?

Here is a link to my story. I thought it was the radio but it turned out to be the speakers.

Re my 2010 SS with the Pioneer, 260 watt, 7 speaker, single CD system with XM that had the sound cutting in and out and the power completely cutting out:
On Monday, the dealer put a replacement system in figuring there was a short in it. On Tuesday, the same problems happened again. On Friday, the dealer "repaired the power connector". After a couple of hours of cruising today, this appears to have fixed the problem.
Just an FYI, my dealer actually contracts out all of its radio repairs to another company.
