I have an 08 HHR LS with the stock factory radio.

About 2 years ago it developed issues with the radio. First occasionally the display would freak out. Turn the radio off then back on, it works. Then the back speakers quit working most of the time. Then all the speakers EXCEPT for the front left tweeter would quit. It happened more and more. Finally it is at the point where it only plays in the tweeter unless the car sits in the hot sun for a few hours, and the temp in the car gets about 120 for awhile. Then the radio works normally until it cools off.

I figure it's the head unit and plan on either replacing it or upgrading it. Has anyone else had this issue or am I just special?

My 2007 factory radio would go dead, always came back after a restart, until my son decided to be childish and punched the radio. The one I bought off ebay never exibited the same problem.

You probably need to replace the unit.

I have an 09 ls and have similar problems. I have an aftermaket radio but the speakers work when they want to. Both speakers in the rear doors play fine. Passenger front speaker is completly dead and driver front speaker kicks on and off as you drive. Tweeters are the same play on and off. I mean they may work for a few days straight then not work for a week. I have heard through people here having speaker problems. My opinion is to check and make sure its the head unit thats the problem. May be a combination of unit and speakers.

I have the same problem with my speakers until it gets hot in my HHR then the right door and the rear speakers will work the next day its the same problem. I'am thinking about changing the whole system.

me too - speakers work at different temperatures, some don't work at all.
