Radio problems after dead battery
I have a 2006 HHR LS, with about 170,000 miles. The battery went dead (reason unknown) and I had AAA come down and jump start.
Everything with the vehicle seems to operate as normal except the radio, which is a standard AM/FM with single CD player. Radio turns on/off, display lights up, and the manual tuner knob works, but no volume at all from the radio. All other alerts - blinker, seat belt, etc. - have normal sounds. In addition, all the presets are gone from the radio, and none of the setting and programming buttons work at all.
I'm inclined to think that maybe the jump start wasn't done properly, causing some electrical issue, but thought I'd ask and see if I'm missing an easy fix. Thanks.

That's a new one! Normally just the power steering is affected by a bad jump start. The presets don't surprise me if the battery was dead for a couple of days.
Is the security light on the dash illuminated? Thinking maybe antitheft came into play. Or radio Serial Number got erased from the computer.
You need to find out what caused the battery to drain. Did you replace it?

Welcome to the site
I have not heard of the radio not surviving a jump start before. The fact that you chimes are still working indicates at least the drivers speaker is still working so I would start by unhooking the battery for a few min.
This may reboot the electrical system if things got scrambled by the jump start.

Welcome to the site, let us know the answer to Don's question and if Lucky's suggest clears up your issue, my presets were cleared when my battery went dead a few years ago, AAA replaced the battery everything was fine , but I had to reset the radio.

Or, your circumstances are slightly different? If so, how?
