Radio Static
#11
I've had this problem occur twice with my 2008 LS since cold weather hit Michigan a few weeks ago. No FM stations, AM stations not affected. Thought it might have had something to do with snow on the vehicle, but brushing the snow off didn't help.

It happened to me again this morning. I remotely started the car as I always do when it is cold outside, got in, turned the key to on and Radio Static. FM and AM. Turned the car off, removed the key, opened the door to kill the radio and started the car up and no static. Car didn't move out of the garage.

Anybody got any information on what this could be. It is beginning to piss me off that sometimes when I turn my car on I get nothing but static on every station and most times I can shut the car completely off and let it sit a minute and start it up again and the radio is fine. Is it the radio? Is it an antenna problem? Something else? Dealer has checked it a couple times and never can recreate the issue.

Old thread but my radio looses all FM stations when I pass a certain area near home. Doesnt matter when or the temperature. Am and XM are not affected. It has never happened anywhere else but in this area. Very frustrated! There is a hospital near by so Im just guessing it is sending out a signal that kills my radio. I filed a complaint with the FCC but I doubt anything will be done.

Same issue
I have been having this same issue. It has been driving me absolutely crazy!! I have my favorite FM radio stations saved and out of nowhere when I start my car none of my FM radio stations come through or are even being recognized as radio stations. I get pure static. My AM radio works fine but who wants to listen to that? Not me! I live in a city and towers are not an issue it has to be my car. I have a Chevy captiva 2014. When I pull in my driveway and take my keys out the radio will come on with no static whatsoever. I also noticed the other day when my radio was working on the highway, when I passed over the other highways and all these huge office buildings the static came back out of nowhere and stayed until I passed back over in the same location. I don’t get it. I would really love to know how to fix it without having to spend an arm and a leg. Help please!!
This has been happening ever since I got my HHR really but thought nothing of it and just assumed it was interference or something but lately it has been bugging me. Every once in a while when I start my car my radio will have static on every radio station. I do not live very far from the radio stations and the funny thing is sometimes I can shut my car off and remove the key and then restart it and the radio is fine and the car never moved. I explained this to dealer once or twice but like usual it never happens then and they dismissed it as signal interference. I am just wondering anyone else has experienced this or has any insight on what it could be or what I could do to troubleshoot the problem further.
Hey if I need a new radio maybe I can convince them to put the head unit in with the USB port. Hmmm.

I can suggest general things to check , like the roof antenna, is it tight? Is it damaged by bending or cooked from UV rays? It appears the mast is threaded onto the roof pad similar to our HHR’s
Water intrusion anywhere can cause your static and reception issues. Look at part #1 and 2 is that connection dry and tight?
