Clearing Permanent Code

I have a 2009 Chev HHr LS. Had trouble code P0442. Evap small leak
Changed gas cap for OEM as recommended. Cleared codes. No engine light for over two weeks.
Went to have emissions test and failed for P0442 code. Hooked up OBDLink and saw I have a "Permanent" code that will not clear
I have until March 11 to fix this problem. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
I have OBDLink LX and use Android phone. Been great for about 6 months

A permanent code should not affect emissions. It means that the fault no longer exists, but it only takes 1 more occurance to light the CEL.

If you cleared codes it will take about 40 cold starts before all of the OBD2 tests run again. You will have "incompletes", many states allow 1 or 2 incomplete tests. The EVAP test is last to run.

P0442 doesn’t just pertain to the gas cap, perhaps other things are leaking?

I’ve had a fuel vapour line leak for a few weeks now, no codes have lit up, but I’d check anyways.

I am willing to bet your fuel lines are leaking. Here is a link to my page about changing them out.

Good luck with your adventure.

For properly bent metal lines with correct stainless steel fittings, I ordered these lines

https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?m...2F182759213082

One piece each, no joints or connections to leak, both are 3/8 fuel lines.

Thanks for all your suggestions
Since the Engine Light is still off for over 10 days now I will go back and see if I will pass emissions test. When I last had the test they said I had too many codes. My OBD scanner on shows the permanent one and I I said no engine light

In this case when we say fuel line leaking we actually mean the vapor line. So you are not looking for fuel on the ground.

If y’all are gonna replace the vapour line you might as well replace the fuel line, they’re the same age and disconnecting the retainer brackets you might cause a problem with the fuel line.

Raw gas oder

2009 LS HHR 84K miles
for the last week I noticed a strong gas smell each time I got out to the car. For the last couple of days it took a couple more revs of the started motor to start the car. This morning there was some raw gas on the ground just in front of the driver side rear wheel.
I'm thinking something to do with the EVAP system
Any suggestions
Thanks in advance

rust hole in the fuel and EVAP lines. Pretty common on older cars in the northeast \US.
