@capp002, how are things going at trying to get ride of the noise? Creaking rattles and squeaking really get on my nerves. LOL I hope you are getting this resolved.
I hope you have a wonderful New Year’s Eve celebrating and be safe.

Cranking continues post white lithium grease.
There are two issues that I'm sure are the same issue:
I have lubricated with wd-40(in the beginning), but it doesn't have enough 'staying power' for this. White lithium grease/spray...the cold that causes it seems to also dry it out, or it gets worked out with time... Periodic maintenance is probably the easiest solution here, apply a heavy weight grease of your choice. I have observed that the hinges appear to be set in such a way that binding occurs...(it's obvious when you look at it, like a wrongly hinged clam shell. It's off.) That puts the strain on the system. I'm looking into affording heavier duty hatch struts. Anybody know about how simple that'd be?
- The hinges creak a binding creak when opening especially, cold weather increases the intensity; and,
- The door doesn't want to open all the way. It had to be pushed up.

I replaced my struts with a set from RockAuto, no binding, they lift the latch fully. Perhaps your struts just require replacement. I do lube mine with white lithium grease in a tub, just a dab on the ball or the pivot every six months, once in the fall and again in the spring.
the low price ones for $9 each.
