rear hatch won't open

I have a 2007 HHR and yesterday i discovered that my back hatch won't open.
my battery is not dead and all the other doors/locks work. it doesn't make any noise when i use the key fob or the door button to lock and unlock the doors. The fuse is good. I need to fix this ASAP can anyone help?

Welcome.

Check this thread regarding the rear hatch lock: https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/gene...-unlock-19626/

There is a description in the Owners Manual on how to manually unlock the rear hatch from the inside of the car via the little removable cover on the inside of the hatch. See page 107 - 108. It's a pain to do, but it does work.

The switch on my 2006 died shortly after taking delivery of the car, but of course was covered by warranty. A few owners here have had problems with the switch - but not excessive.

Manual Liftgate Release
If the liftgate cannot be opened by pressing the
switch on the outside handle, the battery may
be run down. See Jump Starting on page 320.

To manually open the liftgate, do the following:
1. Remove the trim plug, located on the inside of
the liftgate near the center.

2. Locate the release lever on the latch.
The lever is located about three inches
(7.62 cm) behind the trim in the access hole.

3. Insert a tool into the access hole.
Push the release lever rearward.

4. The liftgate will unlatch when the lever is
pushed rearward. Push the liftgate to open.

5. Reinstall the trim plug.

Welcome.
You state that the fuse is good but have you checked the relay ? #18, underhood fuse box.

Did it ever work?

Did somebody put a fuse in position #11 under hood fuse box? That is supposed to be "not used".

Thank you all for your replies! Once we got the hatch open he figured out the switch is bad. Got a new one from the dealer today and going to install it tonight. I tried searching for the problem in any previous posts before posting mine but came up with nothing. guess I'm not doing the search right?? Thanks again!

It’s not that common of a problem that little switch lives up under the beauty bar and rarely fails.

I searched and found this, relating to that fuse in the wrong spot

HHR rear hatch won’t open if I take Fuse 11 out.

Hello guys,

I have been reading till no end on the internet trying to figure out why my hatch won’t open. For the longest time the hatch would never lock after doing some research I found that it doesn’t look because there was a fuse in position eleven. I was excited thinking it would fix my problem but it only fixed it half way. My hatch will not open. I changed the hatch switch with no luck. I also checked fuse 10 and manually tested relay 18 and both are good. However the only way I could get it to open was by taking the relay apart and press the lil button to manual activate, which was the only way I could actually open the hatch.

need some guidance for those out there that may have had the same issue.

thanks

The latch itself might be the problem, chafed wires , a bad ground also will cause havoc.

Latch check

Is there a way to test it or check it without having to buy a new latch. What’s weird is that I can activate the hatch manually by pressing the relay every time, multiple times, but I can’t do it with the new hatch switch.

Did you change the relay and remove #11?

The switch supplies a ground signal to the BCM and to the relay. the BCM then sends the 12V signal to the relay.
The ground point is under the right stop lamp.
The other side of the relay gets 12V from fuse #10 and relays to the motor, The ground for the motor is the same as above.
