Remote Start relay?

Don, I took 5 pics and tried to do 2 in reply to you. Don't know how to scale them so they view. I see them and uploaded in a quick reply, whether it got to you is anyone's guess. Summary: My FOB is a replacement, opened and see new battery from Battery=bulb with no evidence of any broken clips, circuit board seems perfect. I have 3 wires from connector to hood latch, but I have never gotten hood loose to display. I went thru my info center several times and don't see anything about Remote start. Glove box photo shows code AP3 as the first one right under VIN? Not delivered or ever titled as a rental. Last resort: I will write the past owner in VA Beach and ask him to reply with self addressed envelope back to me...what went wrong with RS, anything else I should know. I paid cash so there's no repossessing this Black Beauty. Wish only I had seen this BLO/site and met caring people like you and others before I bought an HHR, esp an 06 - first year.

Just looking at this FOB I can tell it's old and the rubber buttons are quite worn. The conductive contact on these rubber pieces wear out with use. It could be you just need to rebuild the unit with a new rubber pad.
Try this. Take the FOB apart. Test the battery or replace with new, just to rule that out. (looks like new doesn't count)
Then look at the contact points on the circuit board, they are a squiggly gold contact trace. If you short them with a small metal object you will be able to lock, unlock, etc, without using the rubber part at all.
Do the "Lock, Lock, Start" key press procedure with the small metal tool and see it it works then.

Remote start issues
some have said if the hood is ajar,loose,not shut, etc the RzS won't work. Apparently not so? CARFAX says at 61 miles "Anti-theft/keyless device/alarm installed" Priority Chevrolet. Did this mess up RS? As for BCM being replaced, This I was told would solve A/C problem, garage had to have dealer reprogram new unit, was un

Silver? I am having so many different replies I am more lost than before. Bottom line is Remote Start does not work. I can start n have a new FOB matched to my car. If RS still won't work, I will have a new Fob and spare key dealer gave me. Owner had Fobreplaced along his 14 years with this Hhr. The ignition cylinder and keyword changed in 2014 during GM recall. Ignition also replaced and earlier shift linkage totally replaced. What a design that car gets stuck in Park n the key won't turn the motor on. Flatbed tow to dealer and get hosed. I don't thinkId eep the car.

One more time, here is a picture with the wire for the hood ajar switch circled in red, not the latch release cable. If that wire is there AND the DIC does not have an entry for RVS the new BCM was not programmed for Remote Vehicle Start. I don't care what your fob looks like, they can be replaced. I don't care that AP3 is on the RPO sticker, the BCM has been replaced. Whoever paid to have the BCM replaced to fix the AC got ripped off.
The remote start will not work if the hood ajar switch thinks the hood is ajar (it could just be out of kilter).
RVS=RemoteVehicleStart
BCM=BodyControlModule
