Remote starter no longer works. Horn beeps 3 times instead
I know that this is a known issue and found this under the TSB thread:
#PIC5038: RVS Inoperative / Horn Chirp When RVS Function Is Performed - keywords beep button chirp fob function horn inop intermittent key keyless locate no pressed performed remote start - (Nov 20, 2008)
The recommended fix is to replace the fob. Has anyone done this and can they confirm that it works? My primary fob is now in locate mode, but my backup still does work properly. The backup is cracked and not very reliable, so swapping them is not ideal for me.
Can i just have my original fob reprogrammed or do i truly have to replace it?
Is it possible to program a remote for an 07 without going to the dealer? I know that my Mazda allows for this as long as you have a working fob.
I have no love for my local dealers. They are all mega dealers with bad reps and bad personal experiences too. All of the small dealerships that provided good service have been forced out by the mega dealers.
Thanks in advance for any help or advice you can give me.

If you are convinced your remote start problem is the fault of your FOBs. It maybe possible to use the Fixing the FOBs threads to do so, or making one good FOB from your two bad FOBs. Exchange the boards inside to the un-cracked case is a possibility too.

You can just switch the circuit boards like Sno White suggested. You can get new fob cases including the silicone pad for around $10 on ebay, the ones with extra buttons will work you just will have 2 buttons that don't do anything.
A dealer or a well equipped locksmith is required to match a new fob circuit board to the car.

Just an update on this in case someone has this issue down the road.
The problem appears to have been fixed, but the "cure" makes no sense. I replaced the timing chain tensioner with the newer model, because my chain was starting to rattle at start up. (Thank you to the OP on that post). No idea on how this may have affected remote starting. It may just be coincidence, but my remote starter did not work for several months and many attempts to remote start. It works perfectly fine now though.
I cant say for certain this will work for anyone else, but it did for me, or at least it has for the last few weeks. I jsut wanted to share in case anyone else has a similar issue. For $32 and five minutes to replace it was a quick and cheap fix. Not to mention it may save your timing chain from failure if you have the older tensioner.
