Replacing Cam Sensor on 06 HHR

I just had a oxygen sensor replaced at 150,000 miles and the mechanic said I should have the Camshaft Position Sensor Replaced. It is a good idea at that mileage to replace it? How hard is it to replace?? He was talking around $400. Thanks for any help.

Is it a good idea to replace it? - only if you received a CEL error code.

post the code here if you know what it was, as many people use the term sensor instead of solenoid - and they are two totally different things.

Regardless, sensor/solenoid, $400 is way too much.

Replacing cam sensor on 06 HHR

TO Whopper;
The mechanic never mentioned a CEL error code. He sais I should think about replacing the Cam senor as car has 150,000 on it. So I guess I don't really need to replace it or would it be a good idea to replace the cam senor and should I also replace both the intake and exhaust solenoids?

Thanks for the help. I have no problem working on my farm equipment and antique cars but the new cars are something else.

I would not replace any sensors or solenoids based on mileage unless I'm doing some other repair and already have that part removed. If it's not broke don't fix it.

If the 2006 is a 2.2L it has no cam solenoids. Cam position sensors are held on with an O-ring and a screw.

$400.00 dollars for $120.00 or less worth of parts I smell a scam here from your wrench, I would ditch him and use the search window for assistance if a code pops up. until then Keep her clean and drive her often!!! and keep your wallet closed!!!!
