rotor and brake problems

Hi

I have 30,000 miles on my HHR and just had to have the rotors cut and new front pads put on. Has anyone else had this problem. A friend of mine had to have her rotors done 3 times already and she is still having problems.

Thanks Robin

Size: 5.6 KB to the site!!! Yes, it seems some are experiencing this problem. Here is one thread on the subject: Front rotors need to be cut. Some have decided to go to aftermarket equipment as a solution.

Robin! My parents have had the same issues with rotors on their HHR. Dealer replaced rotors @ 24K I think. Mine only has 300 miles, so obviously no issues yet! If you use the search feature here, you'll find lots of other folks have had issues also!

thanks, is there something we can do about this? I told the service guy that it's not right for rotors to go at 30,000 miles. I'm not going to be spending that kind of money every 30,000 miles thats nuts.

Get aftermarket rotors because the OEM ones suck! That's about the only solution that I know of and the route I went.

While the previous members comments are worthy of noting, you MAY NOT have experienced an excessively premature problem. Frankly, most people who experience a rotor/brake problem have the occurance with much lower mileage.

New brake pads and rotor refinish is not highly unusual at 30,000 miles....it just depends on your usage and application.

Your friend, requiring "repair" 3 times, probably does have a problem.

Just my

Snoopy's right. My OEM rotors were screwed by 10K.

Is it a problem with the brakes or how the driver uses the brakes? I had a 92 Suzuki that the rotors were finally replaced at 75,000 miles. My 99 Buick had them replaced around 60,000 miles. I usually use a light touch on the brake pedal.

Then again I have an 87 year vehicle (bought new) that still has the original rotors and 117,000 miles (mostly highway) although the pads have been replaces a few times.

What good aftermarket brands of brake rotors are gtood ones?

What he said.

Just my opinion, but one of the very first thing I noticed with my new HHR was that the brakes where not as efficient as they should be and where undersized for the weight of the car. Especially with an automatic trans, they require what I would consider excessive pedal effort (and possible resulting rotor damage) to slow down. I changed my driving habits to using the transmission a lot more and slowing a lot sooner when possible. Interesting that the SS has larger front rotors and rear disc brakes for the same car weight.

I have a 30 minute commute and take all back roads. I'm not heavy on the brakes either. From what I'm reading here it seems to be a problem with chevy parts.
