pressures are good with a guage. I actually have a couple. but.......the tpms came back on today. Left front not reading a pressure. That must be bad sensor. Not a huge deal to me. Still no codes recurring though, so that is good news, and car seems to be running ok. I'm on wait and see mode. (it sucks to be at a stage in life where a brand new car and car payment don't seem justifiable)

Why a new car, these trucklets are so easy to fix and most repairs are less then the down payment on a new car or at least the taxes!
My frustration is waiting for parts, FedEx has delayed my timing chain kit again, the cam bolts showed up on Tuesday, the chain kits showed delivery scheduled for Tuesday, then Wednesday and now I get another email stating the delivery is rescheduled for tomorrow, pitiful, just pitiful, I ordered on Friday, paid for 2 to 3 days shipping, so I figured Wednesday at least.

You're right. Thanks for talking me down. The HHR is a pretty easy diy vehicle. I'll stay the course. Thanks for your help on my issue. But I have a feeling I'm not done.

I'm back already......So.....went for a freeway drive and when I hit traffic and had to stop, the rough idle returned to the point I thought it would die. I had noticed the other day that the bluetooth elm I have been using was not connecting properly and i had to wiggle it around to get connection. When I did, the dash board lit up with al the warnings again. So I reset the car and plugged in my hard wire Actron OBD and it reported no codes with evap and O2 incomplete. I had just replaced that O2 sensor so I decided to give it more time to complete. Today is is complete. The one remaining monitor incomplete is evap. No codes except........after trying the elm bluetooth again today, all the lights lit up again and now I have U0073, which research tell me is something to do with the control module. Even with the current U0073, there is no cel or any other code.
What's next guys? Where do I look for loose wires, fuses, corrosion....causes of U0073? This is the first I have seen that code. Could a faulty bluetooth ELM itself trigger the U0073? Would rough idle with no other codes be caused by a control module issue? Sorry.

If you need an emissions test, you should go now, before something causes the CEL to light.

im good on smog for another year,. convinced I have an electrical gremlin somewhere but it could be who knows what. Process of elimination. It does not do the rough idle thing when first started or cold. It seems to pop up after driving for a while, surface street or highway. And when you first come to a stop, it does not immediately start rough idle, but the longer you sit at a stop it gradually builds to the point of killing itself unless I put in neutral and increase rpm to over 1000. Then it smooths out. There are NO CODES now beyond that pending U0073 which I cleared. There are no more O2 sensor stuck on lean since I replaced it the other day. It's weird...how can the car be idling that bad but the misfire codes don't come up?

I wonder if the poor idling is because of a bad bearing in either the AC compressor or the serpentine tensioner. Even though the compressor was installed recently, it could still be bad.

A bad compressor would drag the rpm down whenever you turn on the AC, or defrost, or recirculation.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing the other day so I made sure the climate control was completely off. No ac, no fan no nothing. It still did it. I've wondered about the timing chain. Could that have slop in it to where at idle this rough condition appears but with acceleration the chain slop is picked up? I don't want it to be that cuz I'm not sure whats involved but it has crossed my mind. But would I not get some kind of codes if the timing chain was causing misfires or whatever other havoc?

Take off the valve cover, check the chain that could be it. I just changed the timing and balance shaft chains and last night it idled smoothly as I burped the coolant system. It’s not that hard to change the chains , and don’t go cheap! Then chain I replaced was stretched and the tensioner wasn’t deployed , I just replaced those last February. Live and learn!
