Of course. They were damaged. In the cases in question in this thread, it is merely the black tread lifting of the board. Quite a different issue than a damaged board.

OK folks...here's the scoop. Smoke was at the dealer today to have the boards looked at and the oil changed.

According to the dealer, there are 3 different running board styles for the HHR. This was explained to me in great detail by the dealer, so that I would understand what was going on.

1. The ones that were shipped with the car from the factory.

2. The ones shipped afterwards and installed by the dealer. Apparently these are different from the stock factory running boards.

3. A third style has come out apparently because of some sort of problem with the original two and these are the ones that are unpainted.

According to the dealer, I have #2 on my car, since they were not delivered with the car. Apparently, from what I understand, each running board had somewhat of a different setup and the pads for each are different. They told me that since I did not have the third style, that the entire running board would have to be replaced...pad and all.

When I was at the dealer, only the one on the passengar side showed the bowed area on the pad, so they said they would only be ordering one running board. It would come in and then they would have to have it painted before they installed it on my car. OK...fine, but what about the other one? I have my digital here and can show you what it looked like on Sunday...and it seemed silly to me to do just one now and then have to come back later and do the other one. So...they talked to whoever makes those god-like decisions at the dealer (service managers boss) and he said go ahead and order her both of them.

So...the running boards were ordered this afternoon and when they come in they will call me. I guess at that point, I have to go by so they can pull the paint code off my car.

I had heard that having the boards replaced completely was a possibility, but did not really think it would happen...but apparently I am wrong.

So...there you have it.

Deb, did the dealer do your board install after you had bought the HHR?

I wonder what would happen in my case should this ever happen, since I bought the boards myself and installed them myself.

Only makes sense to replace both boards to have them match. Mine came black and had to be painted. The pads had the clips with which you hammered into place.

Black Rose...the dealer installed the boards about a month or two after I bought the HHR. I didn't know about the running board issue until I joined a forum after purchase. Once I saw that, I had them installed and they came painted Sunburst Orange.

I am now thinking that maybe it might be cool to have them painted a different color and give it somewhat of a two tone look. That is...if the dealer will do it for no extra charge, but I can't imagine why they wouldn't...they have to be painted anyway.

Thinking of either black or imperial blue...what do you guys think?

I think the same color, SBO. (Sun Burst Orange)
But Deb, why would you need to give them a color code, that`s in the VIN, they have that, what`s the deal?

BB.....

I'm not sure the paint code is in the VIN. You might want to check on that. At least for the past year, when the paint code question comes up, people have been advised to look at the glove box sticker.....

May be wrong, however.
