Shaking in the steering wheel

I have noticed a really bad shaking in the steering wheel at 60 MPH. I recently had it aligned and that didn't fix it. The mechanic said it would need a caster kit to fix it. Is he right? Or could it be uneven tire wear?

Who ever said that is crazy, I do 110 and I do not get any shaking in the steering wheel, Yes I said 110 MPH and no shaking. I really do not want to show off but I know what I am talking about, My rotors need to be replaced once again, When I am driving at 80 and press on the brakes I get a Shaking in the system and only then. Check out my Gallery I have proof about 110 mph. check it out.

Have they balanced the tires? Because it sounds more like a balance issue to me. You could also have them rotate the tires and see if it changes. Hopefully they have checked these things already because any decent mechanic knows that you don't star with an alignment for steering wheel shake.

Does this happen just driving down the interstate? OR does this happen when applying the brakes at freeway speeds?

I know what you're talking about. Only mine happens whenever I am braking. Usually when I'm braking somewhat quickly from a moderate speed. The steering wheel will shake pretty badly, as if I was driving on a rumble strip. I've had the tires balanced and rotated before. I don't know what the issue is. As dumb as it sounds, it feels more like a loose steering wheel more than anything else. I've come to live with the "problem" as it's still more pleasant than dealing with the dealer. I've also ignored my misaligned driver's door since delivery. I can hear the wind rush through the noticable gap between the door and the roof all the time. I am by no means anti-HHR, but I am going to be getting another car in the Spring. Originally, I was going to trade it in, but now my plan is to keep it as a spare.

There have been problems with warped STOCK brake rotors, that will cause the shaking under braking, in certain situations, like down hill!!! I have experience this, but normal flat driving, not as noticeable.

It's not a braking issue. It's only while driving at normal highway speeds. I've got a long weekend so I'll will rotate the tires and see if there is any change.

Sounds like a tire has gone out of balance, or perhaps a broken belt in the tire. Have you hit anything lately like a big pothole?
