What kind of shimmy are we talking? Does it create a loud noise as well?

Just curious, a similar shake in the Grand Am my wife traded in last year got mostly fixed when we changed both front wheel hubs, although her shake came at about 45mph and ended at 65mph, yours sounds very similar to hers. (part of her problem was also bald-as-Lou-Gossett-Jr. tires, though.)

Mine produces no noise. All my tires shops were closed today so I am going to Gateway Tire in the morning. Hopefully the balance will do the trick.

I didn't know there were different ways to balance a wheel? Reading the last posts was interesting.

No noise here either... can really only feel it through the steering column (passengers don't really notice it). I can honestly say it's not that bad- but it's noticable enough (to me... for a NEW vehicle) that it reminds me when I'm going 60mph (consistently).
I currently have almost 20K on my ride and can say the problem hasn't got any worse (nor better). I can only hope this is status quo for the next 50K!

If the Dealer can't fix it.. (personally) I'd put the tires back as they were, prior to your rotation ..See if it smooths out again ...

(1) I'm sure you rotated as per your Owners manual pattern ?
(2) Did you 'torque' them to oem specs as well ?
Overtightening can indeed cause problems...
(3) is your air pressure up to specs ?

Good Luck, I hope the fix is simple.......

There is no noise to go with it. Just a shaking you can feel in you seat (havent asked any passengers if they notice) and can really tell in the steering wheel. It seems that when it kicks in and I let go of the wheel, it will shake back and forth several degrees.

After working 24 hours on Friday, I slept all day Saturday ( I know I'm a slacker) and spend all day Sunday catching up on other chores (laundry / general cleaning around the house). Hopefully I will get a chance to get the wheels balenced and rotated on Monday.

(4) Clean mating surface of wheel hub and wheel very well. Use steel brush if necessary (from TSB).

Had my tires balanced today and this fixed my shake. I am not sure why rotating them as I did caused the vibration to show up. Mine is good to go now, very smooth at all speeds!!

I would suggest to anyone having a vibration or shake to have the tires balanced first then go from there.

I have this same shimmy at 60 mph since new. I bought my '06 new about 3 months ago. Now have 6,600 miles. The dealer balanced the tires, then replaced 3 tires, then told me that the vibration was NORMAL! I took it to another dealer . They said that the wheels needed to be force balanced and sent it to a Pontiac dealer that had the equipment. They also noted that the first dealer balanced the wheels incorrectly with multiple weights in several locations on each wheel. It is much better but not what I call smooth until you get over 70 MPH.
