Shift Cable Removal

I'm in the process of pulling my (2006 2.4L, 5 speed) engine and trans. I need to unhook the shift cables at the transmission.

The factory service manual only says to remove it without explaining how.

The cables have a soft plastic end that attach to a metal stud on the transmission shift mechanism. I assume its some sort of ball mechanism since you can pivot them around. I can't figure out how to unhook them. There are no visible fasteners. The connection is inside the plastic part.

Does anyone have any info on removing them?

Thanks
Steve
