Shift knob M/T

My numbers are cracking and poking my hand so i want to replace it. I tried to unscrew it, and it won't budge. It's just stuck.

Is this shift knob not unscrewable or is mine just really really tight?

It does not unscrew, there r tabs to release unit assembly. I believe knob is pressed and glued on. Think you would have to replace entire shifter can't just do knob unless u want to customise and fabricate. I haven't installed it yet but I bought twm performance shifter to replace mine and it has the screw on knobs. Plus should have much better feel while shifting. I went with a weighted knob to get a more solid shift. They however r not cheap.

That sucks! Why did they design it like that.

Saves probably $.50 per car during the manufacturing process. I agree its a real pain, I have been putting off changing mine, the cheap plastic chrome, is peeling on mine too. Not sure what exactly I'm going to do about it, I don't think GM offers anything better that will fit, but I really haven't checked that closely yet.
