I had to rev mine pretty high to get that light to come on. Just before red line is when it will illuminate.

Thankfully that silly light is not on Canadian models....Had one on my Jeep and hated it.

 

Ok well i just took the car out to test the shift light...Started off in first gear, went all the way ti'll the rev limiter hit and no shift light, same for 2nd gear, and same for 3rd...I have came to the conclusion that my shift light does not work...

 

Glad mine doesn’t work, I hate those damn things.
I know when I need to shift; I bought it with a manual for a reason, and not because I need a strong left leg.

 

id agree, curious do you have the 2.4 or 2.2?

 

I have a 2.2 and a 5 speed and have NEVER seen my shift light lite up! This is very odd. Maybe I should go askmy dealer about it...hmmmm...

 

Same here...2.2 and a 5spd....LS model...No light ever......

 

Unless you're going to do other things at the dealer, why waste your time for this silly light? Anyone who has a standard should not need a little light to tell them to shift gears. That is what a standard is all about...you controlling when you shift...my But hey if you would like the light to work go for it...it's your vehicle.

 

I posted a Q on this some time back...
I've got a 2.4L and never saw it light ~until~ you take it to redline. The light's intended to be a shift 'reminder' for the best gas mileage, however, that can get annoying - fast! From other's responses, mine acts the same- only comes on at redline (thank goodness). Not sure about the 2.2's.

 

I also have noticed no light at all. I have not been all the way to redline, just close. I have the 2.2 5 speed. I know that other vehicles I have had that have the shift light, it will come on at supposedly optimal fuel use, so if you are easy on the gas, it will come on early, hard on the gas late. I am planning to ask the dealer whenever I have to make a trip there.
