soft brake pedal

soft brake pedal
I have a 2006 HHR and it hasn't felt like it has been stopping good lately. So I changed the rear brakes over the weekend and now the brake pedal is extremely soft and goes all the way to the floor to stop.
The brakes are adjusted properly, you just have to pull up on the e-brake a few clicks for it to engage. I had the brakes bled yesterday and it didn't help. During the the brake bleeding the pedal would hold good pressure while pumping the brakes. When the valve was closed the pedal would drop back to the floor.
Thanks in advance for any help.

I have had them apart and everything is where it needs to be. Haven't seen any leaks. I have been told it could be the master cylinder. Even the front brakes are not grabbing like they should be now. Almost like I am only getting partial power when braking.

Just talked to a local mechanic where i hang out and he said there could be air in the
ABS controller But you need a scan tool to do this procedure as the tool activates the
controller . There is an option in the controller just to do this procedure .When you activate the bleed feature you hold the pedal to the floor and while the controller is
doing this the pedal will continually pulsate till the process is finished . You may want to
try this . He said this is rare but he seen this happen and the after process gave excellent results

So you put new brakes on the rear only; now the brakes are worse than before.
That tells me either you did something wrong or something else is broken.
On a 2006 the universal springs have been known to break. Did you look at the front pads?
Could be the Master Cylinder.

Dave thanks for talking to the mechanic for me! Where I work has a mechanic shop they helped me bleed the brakes. They have a scan tool to bleed the brakes and it wants to have a full charge on the battery. For some reason my battery wouldn't hold the pull from the scan tool. So I think I will revisit the procedure.
Don brew, the front brakes are about 6 months old. I replaced all the rear shoes, drums and springs and have everything adjusted properly. When you brake you can't get the hard neck snapping brake. It is is a slow and soft brake and even on all corners.
