Sort of funny noise from engine?
#11
My 2.4 makes a slight diesel noise that can only be heard from the cab not the engine bay, has done it since day one, had 15miles on it when I bought it. I had another odd noise that ended up being the catalytic converter... no CEL or anything.

I saw that in your other thread....I wonder if it is related to the cat....not really too much noise when cold but when warm and you give it gas it does make a clacking noise that I can really only hear in cabin

My car made the slight diesel noise since day one, the cat broke and a different noise covered it up, now that the cat is fixed the slight diesel noise is back... I asked around the service department and they said it was normal.

Get this figured out Goose?
No odd sounds from mine. No clanking, knocking, rattling, whistling, and definatly no diesel sounds......
Well, guess that is not totally true, I do hear a slight "squeek" when I back out of my driveway and it "bounces" coming off the rolled curb. But I know that is just me.....

No I haven't Solman...have not had the car in yet...trying to find time is crazy.....funny how it doesn't make the clacking noise when it is cold...only when warm after running for 30 miles or so.....weird? Any ideas peeps?
Not sure of what to make of it...if I bring it to the dealer..all they have to say is "normal" and then whack me for a diagnostic fee....I know it isn't normal but they sort of have you over a barrel. I have to bring it in for the outside temp gauge (always reads high), the trim drooping on the rearview mirror so I'll mention the noises then....I need to hear other peoples HHR's because what I think is noisy may not be to other people..
I'm wondering if it is the timing chain tensioner or the belt tensioner....I know these can make a racket

Okay I was planning on asking this same question for the last few days and someone beat me to it. I also have the slight deisel sound, but only hear it while I am stopped. It is sortof like a tick and a clunk mixed and does sound alot like the deiseling noise you'd get from an older car that isn't firing right. I have no clacking sound when accelerating, but this sound drives me nuts I guess I need to take it in and let the dealer hear it so they can say it sounds normal.
