It only applies to the SS with disc.

Drum needs what you are doing by backing up and hiting the brakes.

The drum issue is usally easy to fix. A cable lose, adjuster way out that will not adjust up, a rare frozen adj etc. They should be able to fix it faily easy with drums.

If someone does not back up much from parking on the street or a driveway with a circle it can wear the brake far enough that they never adjust up and have to be done by hand.

Finally had time to pull the console out and check it out. Took so long due to death in family and being very busy but as I am planning on selling the hhr I am trying to get in cleaned up and the e-brake is the only thing needing fixed. Anyways Pulled the console fairly easy to take out started at fuse compartment and worked my way around. Got to the E-Brake and found both cables sitting on the floor behing the connector. (See pics of part) The short cable that goes from e-brake back and has the splitter on it to connect to left and righst side has bent open on the driver's side allowing the cable to pull throught the slot and then shortly after the other will come onhooked. I contacted GM about this as it is obviously a mfg defective part and got no where but at least its documented. Now to find the part or fix the one I have Anybody have one laying around for sale?

[QUOTE $.02 I was always taught to use the WB no matter what, otherwise its the tranny holding the car in place, and that ain't smart even on flat ground for either a 5sp or auto.[/QUOTE]

I found out that the hard way. A drunk driver slid into my truck while it was parked outside a friend's house and pushed it about 20 feet from where I parked it. Had all the body work and mechanicals done by a local body shop. When they went to test drive it, no reverse. Seems the force of the impact destroyed the output shaft (it snapped a third of the way in the tail housing). And some how killed the O.D. planetary and the reverse clutch band. But truck did have O.D. when they took it for a test drive they said. So the insurance company ponied up for a new trans after doing almost 6000 in body work. I thought it was pretty funny. They put almost 4000 more than what the truck was worth. I drove it for another year and half before I got the SS. I still got 3900 on trade for it. The cops said " he had to be traveling at least 45 mph". I doubt having it applied would have even made a difference but I have used it ever since.

Well I am trying to find this cable and so far GM wants me to buy the entire E-brake assembly and none of the parts stores I have found so far carry any cables at all for the hhr as it is still a newer vehicle. I am going to check the bone yards this week and try to match it up or get one from a wrecked car.
