Starts with rough idle then revs up

I tried a GM dealership who replaced the injectors for $800 and then said can't help you...and then the guy down the street and now a Chevy dealership. Not one has a clue as to the solution. Boy do I wish the guy down the street was that genius who has all the answers but haven't found him yet. Gonna stop looking soon and cut my losses.

My personal experience is don't expect anything from a dealership mechanic besides a "I know everything" attitude. Which would be fine, if they could back it up.
However, they do have access to computer update files. I wonder if the ECM was replaced when the car was totaled. The should try to reprogram the ECM.

Update: Progress but not what I wanted to hear. Dealership just called to confirm they checked the engine serial number and it's not the engine matching my VIN. In fact, it's not a 2.4l engine as called out by the VIN, it's a 2.2L The fellow I've been talking to acknowledged they can't do any reprogramming or mods but he is going to contact an acquaintance who does engine computer tuning to see if he is able to reprogram the ECM to make this 2.2l engine run properly. Hey! Maybe he can super tune it to run better than a 2.4L!! More to follow. But I am 50% disappointed to find this out but also 50% overjoyed to find a believable cause of this evasive problem :) Honestly, I don't really care if it's a 2.2 or 2.4 because when it's running it is plenty peppy for my purpose. Will report results.

I don't know the year of this engine ...only that it's a 2.2l and my ECM is for the original 2010 2.4l. Any comments and suggestions on this would be greatly appreciated so I can proceed with some knowledge of what can be done and how to do what must be done! :)

We’ll, the 2.2 must be from a 2009,2010,2011 because of the VVT , and those years have the same fuel injectors, cam position sensors crankshaft position sensor but different throttle body’s.
The ECM would have to be updated with the 2.2 information for your model year. A tuner should be able to do that for you.

A dealership can't do it because of liability, but you could get a ECM from a 3rd party that has tech2 to program your VIN into a 2,2L module. There were a couple of vendors on ebay that sold used reprogrammed ECMs.

Thanks for that valuable info Oldblue. So I guess it's a good thing I still have the original throttle body I pulled back at the start of this debacle :) I replaced it with a new one based on my VIN hoping to correct the problem. It did not but it didn't make things any worse either that I can tell. So the problem as I see it is how do I determine the model year of the engine? Is that something that is easy for a tuner to determine?
donbrew...just saw your last. I will definitely look into that. Thanks!

The new engine information should be on the timing chain end of the engine, a white paper sticker with a bar code
Here we see that sticker on the valve cover, hopefully they didn’t swap it from your old 2.4
Another view. This is an LNF being installed in an MGB a great swap
