steering wheel lock?

Can someone with a 2007 hhr LS please test their car to see if their steering wheel locks when you turn off the car.
Since I got the Ignition switch replaced under the recall my steering doesn't lock anymore... You can turn the wheel when the car is turned off..I am sure that it locked before the recall repair....

The steering is supposed to lock. I believe that is standard on most, if not all vehicles since the late 60s/early 70s.

Pretty sure it has to be off AND the key removed for it to lock.

Anyway. Take it back to the dealer that did the recall work. If it was locking before they did the work, then let them make it right.

It's a law.

Sometimes the pawl doesn't engage, more typical that it won't let go when you try to turn the key; you have to jiggle the wheel.

The technician flubbed the job.

Thanks for your replies. I have contacted GM and received an email back that states..:
Mr. Ammazzini,*

Thank you for your patience.*

Since speaking with you I have reviewed with our Technical Engineers.*

They could not *find any supporting data *that your 2007 Chevrolet HHR had or did not have the locking mechanism ,*

To confirm the option dealer would need to check another Chevrolet HHR of the same year and model.*

Dealer does not have a 2007 model at this time..*

When a 2007 Chevrolet HHR is available we can further review at that time.*

I replied back with screen caps of this forum where every claims the wheel should lock....

It would appear that their "Customer Engagement Ambassador" is similar to our "Chevrolet Customer Service" representative on this site. That puts them at a considerable disadvantage since the only GM knowledge they possess is what they are told. Social media...........

Swapping emails with an unknowledgable pencil pusher will get you no where.

As stated above, you should return the car to the dealer and show them in person what the issue is.

According to the Owner's Manual for your year (which you can get online from donbrew's signature link if you don't have a paper one), your wheel should lock when the key is turned to the lock position (p. 116).

Bring them the manual and force them to right this.

The "GM Customer Engagement Ambassador" may have never seen a Chevrolet! They could be in Cincinnati or Timbuktu, they are the Twitterverse people, NOT people with hands on experience with automobiles! DO NOT ask them any technical question expecting an answer other than "go to your local dealer", they may be more polite than I am, but RTFM.
